Here is the phonics video to recap the digraphs and tricky words that we have learnt this week…
In maths we have enjoyed racing games outside and car racing inside to learn about ordinal numbers (1st,2nd,3rd). We also enjoyed listening to this funny story and pretending to be the animals waiting in a queue for the loo!…
We have begun our first week getting back into our daily routines, learning new digraphs and a trigraph in phonics and exploring number pairs to 10. Here is this weeks phonics video…
For the first 3 weeks, lots of our learning will be focused on Winter and we have talked about the weather and the clothes we might need to wear outside. We have also enjoyed listening to the story of The Mitten. Please enjoy this at home too…
It has felt very christmassy in Grayling Foundation this week. Every day we add a new advent decoration to our christmas tree and talk about advent calendars we may have at home.
In busy bees we have been enjoying playing dice games together, acting out santa with his reindeers and elf helpers, making cinnamon playdough cookies and getting very creative with the construction cubes!
Here’s to one more festive filled week and a reminder that it is our Christmas play on Monday! Families are welcome to come and watch at 1.30pm 🙂
This week we have spent lots of time practising for our christmas play and have loved using the stage to get a feel for what it will be like on the day!
Today we finished off the week with our Christmas secret shop and a talk about hedgehogs from Mrs Blackaller who helps to rescue and look after poorly hedgehogs! We saw photos of hedgehogs eating, a hoglet that was 3 days old and a hedgehog that was stuck in the fence here at damers. Thank you for coming to visit our class and show us all your photos.
Remember that there are no new phonemes but please look through the phoneme book to see which ones your child may need to revisit.
Grayling foundation have had a super busy week! The children are getting SO confident at telling our Star Hunt story ready for the Christmas play and Miss Baker loves their singing voices for all the songs we have learnt. I hope you all recieved your costume letters. Please let me know if you didn’t or if you need any help sourcing the clothes.
In maths we have focused on the number 7, noticing that there are 7 days in a week and 7 colours in the rainbow! Numberblocks help us to learn more about 7…
Grayling Foundation have had a busy day to help fundraise for Children in Need. We went on a Pudsey hunt around the school and found 7 different Pudseys! We also joined in with Joe Wicks’ morning exercise and completed 5 laps of the playground for a Walkathon! All of Grayling have tried their best and enjoyed our different Pudsey related activities 🙂
Here is this week’s phonics video (Sorry again about the confusion in the phoneme books. You should have received an email explaining the correct order)
And finally, we look forward to seeing you on Monday morning for our next Stay and Play. The focus will be name writing and number learning 🙂
This week we have talked about Rememberance Day and all the brave soldiers. Here is a little video that we watched to help us to understand what Rememberance Day is about…
The children then created poppy paintings and poppy badges to bring home. They were so grown up when we all tried to be silent at 11am today for 2 whole minutes 🙂
This week in phonics we learnt the phonemes v,w,y and x. Please keep looking back at all the phonemes we have learnt so far to help the children retain them 🙂 Here is this week’s video…
This week we have learnt 3 new digraphs and another phoneme! The children are great at remembering that 2 letters make 1 sound. Please watch the phonics video here….
In maths we have focused on the number 4. We have talked about a square having four corners and four sides as well as looking at number pairs to make 4. We know 3 and 1, 2 and 2, 4 and 0!
Here are some fun number and pattern games you can play at home…
We have had lots of discussions about fireworks and bonfire night and the children have enjoyed using their creative and cutting skills to make these firework masterpieces! I hope you have a fun yet safe time watching them this weekend 🙂
We have reached the end of our first half term in school! The children have settled in so well and grown so much as learners in this time 🙂
Sadly we said goodbye to Mrs Frampton today. We will miss her loads but wish her lots of luck in her new job!
Over the week please have a look back at the phonemes the children have learnt so far, watch the video link on the ‘welcome’ page of this blog or have a go at this fun balloon phonics game….
You will also find a name writing card in your child’s bookbag. We have been using these in school and the children are amazing at having a go to trace and then independently write their names, starting each letter in the correct place! Please keep this one at home 🙂
Thank you to those who have brought in wellies for our outdoor learning. If you have not done this yet then please bring in some named wellies to keep in school on our wellie rack.
I hope everyone has a well deserved rest over the half term and we look forward to seeing you back in school on Tuesday 1st November 🙂
Miss Baker
p.s … here are the children wearing their marvellous hats that they decorated with pictures and drawings of all the things they love 🙂
